Ben Darsow is one of the country’s most promising young standup comedians, and has performed to very positive responses right throughout Australia. Ben’s comedy is fresh and intelligent and his quick wit and self effacing nature make him quickly likeable and also very versatile on stage.
Ben has had outstanding success in several searches for emerging talent. In 2004 he won the South Australian final and reached the national final of Triple J’s Raw Comedy; in 2005 he made the national final of FHM magazine’s Search for Australia’s Funniest Man; and in 2007 he won the South Australian final of Rove’s Search for Australia’s Funniest Undiscovered Comedian.
Ben has appeared twice on the Comedy Channel’s Standup Australia program and to date has performed over 30 minutes of original material on national television.
In 2006 Ben presented his debut solo Adelaide Fringe Show ‘Planet Darsow’ to receptive crowds and terrific feedback. The Advertiser deemed him to be “a genuinely funny bugger”, whilst the Messenger awarded his opening night 4 stars, describing him as a “high energy cocktail of coolism and nerdism” and saying “every South Aussie should visit his unique and hilarious planet...an original and entertaining ride to remember”.
In 2008 Ben presented an entirely new solo show in the Adelaide Fringe, ‘The Real World’, which was once again well received by strong numbers and enthusiastic audiences. After watching Ben perform, the Independent Weekly review said “go see his solo show before he gets too famous”.
To conclude the year, Ben was privileged enough to be selected amongst a line up of Australian male comedians to perform a charity show for ‘Movember’ Men’s Health Awareness in front of a very warm crowd of 700 at the famed Thebarton Theatre.
In 2009 Ben will present his debut solo Melbourne International Comedy Festival show ‘Connected’, and following this he looks likely to perform around the club scene of Australia for the duration of the year.
