In February 2010, in a small comedy club in Sydney’s Kings Cross, Dave Eastgate was joined onstage for an impromptu performance by Academy Award Winner Robin Williams, who described Dave’s act as “f*#%ing beautiful”. Indisputably Australian comedy’s most dazzling new talent, Dave Eastgate is an overnight sensation, 14 years in the making.
A passion for performing began as a child growing up in Papua New Guinea where his father was stationed as a diplomatic attaché with the Australian Defence Force. The family moved to the Gold Coast when Dave was a teenager and the self confessed “black sheep” began his professional career performing characters, stunts and music in the Queensland resort town’s famous theme parks, theatre restaurants and comedy clubs from the age of 16.
In 2001 at the age of 21 Dave headed to Osaka to work as a street/stunt performer at Universal Studios Japan. Immersed in the language and the culture of Japan, Dave spent 5 years performing his own characters, stunts and music. During this time Dave also toured the country as a singer/guitarist with a Japanese punk band, performed Japanese stand-up comedy and made several television and radio appearances… IN FLUENT JAPANESE!!!
A short stint backpacking and performing open-mics in NY, LA, Toronto and and the UK followed before Dave would return to Oz in ’06 determined to “work his ass off” touring stand-up clubs and pubs around Australia, firmly cementing himself as one of the best live comedy acts in the country. It’s this reputation that landed gigs as the audience warm-up for Big Brother, Australian Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Australia’s Got Talent and The X-Factor. His corporate clients now include McDonald’s, P&O, Jim Beam Global, Microsoft Australia, Virgin Mobile (UK), Irun Bru (UK) and The Gold Coast Titans Rugby League Club.
After a sellout season at The 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Eastgate fulfilled a life long dream and headed to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to perform with Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner, Brendon Burns.
Dave has appeared as the guest comedian on Channel 10’s Ready Steady Cook and Thursday Night Live and Channel 7’s The X Factor and Xtra Factor. Commercials for Foxtel, Subway, Canadian Club, XXXX Gold and Acer Computers have been followed by roles on the Emmy Award winning HBO comedy series, “My Life on the D-List”, AFI winning ABC comedy series “Review With Myles Barlow” and Logie Award winning Channel 9 drama, “Sea Patrol” as well as the 2008 feature film, “Crooked Business”.
