James Tinniswood

James Tinniswood cut his teeth with a Home Brand toothbrush, resulting in a decade long fear of Franklins Supermarkets.

As a Fully Grown Man Adult TM, he cut his comedy teeth as a writer, performer and director in the acclaimed UQ Law Revue, performing to sell-out crowds in the thousands. He went solo on the open mic scene in 2008, performing to sell-out crowds of ten. Since then, James has emerged as one of the most unique and popular acts on the Brisbane scene with witty, original and rather freaking catchy comedy songs and a dorky, pop culture-laden sense of humour.

A two-time state finalist in Raw Comedy, run by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, James was also part of the Queensland contingent sent to Canberra for the 2011 Green Faces competition. He has shared the stage with acts such as Adam Hills, Jimeoin, Hannah Gadsby, The Bedroom Philosopher, Matthew Hardy, Tommy Dean, Danny McGinlay and Lindsay Webb. He has also gained a following on YouTube, with several of his songs, videos and short films amassing hundreds of thousands of views. He blogs and Tweets.

He dabbles in musical theatre from time to time. He continues to write and perform skits and songs with local comedy troupe “The Complete First Season”. What else? His typing speed is around 64 wpm but he can get it up to 76 if it’s a flat, straight road with no traffic. At 88 wpm, his keyboard travels back in time in a trail of fire and hooks up with his mother.

James can be seen performing as part of Brisburned, a theatrical style sketch comedy show featuring original sketches and songs about Brisbanites and their frustrations and exasperations with a city they don’t exactly love, but don’t exactly hate either.
