Showko – Ventriloquist

Acclaimed ventriloquist and comedian Showko is like nothing you’ve experienced before.Leaving audiences screaming for more from Edinburgh to Melbourne, her highly engaging show mixes amazing technical skill with quirky hilarious comedy.  Wrapped in a glamorous kimono, Showko and her cheeky puppets have entertained audiences from cabaret venues and comedy clubs to festivals, cruise shows and corporate events.

A born entertainer, Showko grew up in Kobe, Japan putting on shows at family gatherings  believing it was her mission in life to do so. After university she snubbed her nose at corporate life in the Japanese bubble economy to become a Police woman in a special division who`s only responsibility was to teach traffic safety using ventriloquist puppets.. seriously.

Wanting to further explore the world and take a break from the male dominated society Showko undertook further studies in Canada. After coming back home Showko studied to become a professional radio announcer and then moved on to a successful career as a radio personality in Japan and Singapore.

Upon seeing her future master`s show, a Japanese Puppet Rakugo artist, Showko knew what she wanted to do in her life and decided to become a professional Rakugo entertainer to make people laugh. Rakugo is Japanese sit-down comedy, a very male dominated traditional artform. After convincing him to accept her as his apprentice she gave up everything, her career, apartment and love life to fly to London. There she learnt not just Puppet Rakugo but used her own mastery of ventriloquism with cheeky puppets to create her own unique style of quirky, hilarious Ventriloquist Comedy which she performed at comedy clubs in London.
