Tony Woods
Tony Woods, a prominent American comedy writer and stand-up comedian, is renowned for his mentorship to comedy luminaries like Dave Chappelle. Woods embarked on his comedy journey at 23 with his debut at the Comedy Cafe in Washington D.C.
An original member of Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam and P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, he gained international acclaim, touring Europe and the Middle East in the early stages of his career.
Known for his laid-back, meditative style and a mellow brand of cool, Woods often employs wordplay and malapropisms in his observational comedy. His influence is evident in the gratitude expressed by Dave Chappelle, who credited Woods for doing comedy “absolutely right” upon receiving the Mark Twain Prize. Woods, who lacks a specific style or formula, prefers an unscripted approach, often forgoing the writing process for his performances.
