Urzila Carlson

South African born, and now New Zealand citizen, comic Urzila Carlson took to the stage for the first time in 2008 and has since racked up an impressive array of awards for her stand up including ‘Best Female Comedian’ at the 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 NZ Comedy Guild Awards and the coveted TV3 PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD at the 2013 New Zealand International Comedy Festival.

She has made numerous TV appearances in New Zealand on shows such as `A Night at the Classic’, ` The Comedy Christmas Cracker’ with Rhys Darby, AotearoHA!, The Jono Project and of course she tames the boys as a regular panellist for TV3’s hit show 7 Days. Urzila was also invited to be part of the hugely successful 7 Days Live NZ Tour.
She has had 6 sold out solo seasons (2010 to 2015) at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. She was invited to Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2013 by international comedy promotional giants Live Nation where she had a hugely successful sell out season and appeared on the televised Oxfam Comedy Gala and Comedy Up Late.
In 2014 she has another season in Australia with Live Nation in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and once again she has been invited to be part of the televised Oxfam Comedy Gala in Melbourne. She has also appeared in the Canberra Comedy Gala and the ABC’s “Spick’s and Specks”.
Urzila is sort after as a corporate entertainer, her natural, cheeky, straight up style ensure audiences are eating out of her hand within minutes of her taking the stage. Her material lies in her unique, everyday experiences. Both men and women can relate to Urzila’s sense of humour and she is anything but a “typical female comedian” when it comes to her choice of subject matter.
Urzila Carlson is one of New Zealand’s funniest comedians, male or female, and a true star on the rise.
