RAW COMEDY – Australia’s Largest Open Mic Comedy Competition

Comedy adventurers – are you fierce, focussed and funny enough to conquer the comedy jungle in Australia’s largest and most prestigious open mic competition?

Registrations for RAW Comedy open TODAY, Tuesday 24 November with heats to be held in more than eight states and regional centres across the country between January and March 2016.

It’s survival of the funniest in RAW Comedy, when the nation’s comedy thrill seekers swing headfirst into the spotlight. With past competitors including Ronny Chieng, Hannah Gadsby, Josh Thomas, Celia Pacquola and Matt Okine, RAW Comedy is the place for new comedy talent to spread their wings, and who knows where they might just land.

Could be headliners of the future will swing into action, facing off against their fears and each other to battle it out for the title of RAW Comedy National Champion 2016.

No stone will be left unturned when the country’s comedy connoisseurs are let loose in search of the funniest folk in every state, judging each heat to decide who will go through to the National Grand Final as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April.

2015 RAW Comedy Winner Angus Gordon says, “Performing to a packed Melbourne Town Hall for the Raw Comedy final was the most exhilarating experience of my life. Winning Raw has allowed me to perform in Edinburgh, travel through Europe, move to Melbourne and even got me a new job. A few years previously I had entered Raw and I didn’t win. I was incredibly disapointed, but ultimately, the experience was very beneficial in my development from an arrogant little shit to a less arrogant little shit.”

Five minutes of new, original comedy material is all it takes – stand-up, sketch, double and triple acts, musical comedy are all welcome. Anyone who has earned less than $500 from performing comedy (as of 1 January 2016) is eligible to show off their comic prowess on the RAW Comedy stage.

The ultimate RAW Comedy National Champion will be whisked off to Edinburgh next August for the world’s largest Festival Fringe and a spot in the coveted So You Think You’re Funny? competition.

Nothing compares to the thrill of stepping on stage to see an audience laughing back at you. Swing into action and register at rawcomedy.com.au.

For those who prefer to be on a seat not the stage, come to the heats to be in with a chance to be the first to spot Australia’s next comedy superstar – venues and dates can be found on the website.

RAW Comedy is proudly supported by triple j.
