Get ready for the funniest night on the legal calendar! The Golden Gavel is back at the Sit Down Comedy Club on 11 September 2025, with doors opening from 5:30pm.
What is the Golden Gavel?
The Golden Gavel is a competition where competitors showcase their advocacy and comedy skills. Contestants deliver humorous speeches on far-fetched legal topics. Each state and territory host a Golden Gavel with their respective winners advancing to the national competition (The National Golden Gavel).
The Golden Gavel is not just a prize, but an opportunity for young lawyers to develop their public speaking and communication abilities!
Watch Queensland’s sharpest legal minds trade the courtroom for the comedy spotlight as they deliver a 3–5-minute stand-up routine in a battle for the prestigious title of Queensland’s Funniest Lawyer.
Past comedic legends have tackled topics like:
– Squatting in your childhood bedroom: Can your prolonged stay turn into a case for adverse possession?
– Mens Rea and Res Ipsa Loquitur: Is it time to swap out the ancient Latin legal vibes for some phresh Gen Z lingo?Â
